The first Downtown Block Party of the year signifies the start of summer event season in downtown Sioux Falls. The free family-friendly event features live music from 3 great bands, 5 food trucks, cold beverages, kids activities and more. The event takes place in the 8th & Railroad Center parking lot located at 401 E 8th Street, from 5:30 to 11:00 PM on First Friday, June 2.
"DTSF signature events contribute to our city's quality of life, income generated is reinvested into the betterment of the downtown community, and our events drive foot traffic to downtown businesses, generating sales tax revenue," says Brienne Maner, DTSF Vice President. "In 2016, DTSF events produced an economic impact of over $2 million."
Headlining the event on June 2nd will be The Maytags from Des Moines, IA. This captivatingly groovy band is motivated by the retro mood of jazz, all having studied the genre in their careers. Featuring instruments such as saxophone, drums, keyboard, trumpet, and guitar, among others, this group displays a tone of old-school jazz intertwined with a modern sound.
Opening for The Maytags is local singer/songwriter Thomas Hentges who will perform with his band Burlap Wolf King. Burlap Wolf King recently released a new LP/CD “Bitter Honey” featuring an array of notable local musicians, on sale now at Total Drag in downtown Sioux Falls.
Pre-show entertainment will be provided for the fourth consecutive year by Aberdeen-based Better Ride. The band recently launched an IndieGoGo fundraising campaign to produce a new album and bring hands-on art and music to communities around the state and Minnesota as part of a Fallout Art & Music Tour. Kids activities will be available courtesy of the Fallout Creative Group.
Enjoy refreshing beverages from Bud Sioux Falls, Coca-Cola of Sioux Falls, and Prairie Berry East Bank.
Food vendors on site will include: SDSU Ice Cream, Backyard BBQ, Hunny & Bunny, Kettle King Kettle Korn, and Tasty Trolley.
