SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - The Downtown YMCA will officially transition from a fitness facility to a youth development center on December 18.
The Sioux Falls Family YMCA made the announcement Monday.
“The critical need for quality child and youth programming in the downtown Sioux Falls area has grown exponentially in the past few years,” Eric Tucker, president & CEO of the Sioux Falls YMCA, said in a press release. “Kids need a safe, supportive environment to learn new skills and build healthy relationships.”
The re-purposed Downtown YMCA will continue to offer access to basketball and racquetball courts, along with a new childcare center, game room, youth strength training center and gymnastics facility, among a variety of programs.
Children under 18 can access the facilities and programs for free.
Officials said over 15,000 children, ages 6-weeks through high school, have participated in YMCA programs this year.
The Downtown YMCA is located at 220 South Minnesota Avenue.
