Feeding South Dakota holds Valentine's Day fundraiser

(KSFY) - Feeding South Dakota is once again holding a Valentine's Day fundraiser to support the BackPack Program

On Wednesday, February 14th, the hunger-relief organization will deliver a rose and Valentine card decorated by a child to your special someone within Sioux Falls city limits for a donation of $50.

Organizers say the gift will support the BackPack Program, and will cover the cost of a weekly food package for one child for the rest of the school semester.

If you live outside city limits but still would like to participate in the Share Your Love fundraiser, Feeding South Dakota will mail a card on your behalf to your loved one for the $50 donation.

This is the 5th year for the fundraiser. Last year, the Share Your Love campaign raised more than $6,700, enough funding to provide food to 134 children through the end of the school year. This year, Feeding South Dakota is hoping to fund 150 weekend food packages.

Each week, the BackPack Program provides more than 3,100 weekend food packages to children in Sioux Falls and ten surrounding communities. The program is partially funded through the Sioux Empire United Way and costs more than $500,000 each year to operate in Sioux Falls. Individual donors contribute more than 50 percent of funds raised.
