Girl scouts 'BIG' event encourages interest in STEM careers

Sioux Falls, SD (KSFY) The Believe in Girls event also known as "BIG" was held in Sioux Falls Saturday.

The event is an opportunity to get more girls interested in STEM, through the local Girl Scouts organization.

Those at the event got the chance to experience hands on stations like an archaeology dig, CPR and even got to practice the weather with a green screen.

“We find that girls are interested in STEM when they get the opportunity to do hands on activities in STEM and it gets them more interested and they see all the different ways that STEM can be a part of their life and their future careers," Amanda Heggeseth with Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons said.

About 150 girls came out to the ‘BIG’ event Saturday; the Girl Scouts of the Dakota Horizons also offers programs for the outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship.
