SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Great Bear Recreation Park is now open for the season.
The park opened Tuesday morning with limited ski, snowboard and tubing lanes.
Staff members have been making snow for the past few weeks, and after a slow start they were finally able to welcome all of the eager thrill-seekers in Sioux Falls.
"There was a lot of pent up demand, but unfortunately when the weather doesn't cooperate there's not much we can do," Great Bear general manager Dan Grinder said. "When this cold streak came in it was perfect for us. Snow-making conditions have been perfect, and we're going to continue making snow right through the first of the year."
"It's always hard when it doesn't snow, but the snow-making team out here is awesome. They really put it together quickly and got this whole place open, blew the entire area with snow in a couple days and now were out here riding," snowboarder Dan Nix said.
The park is only open on a limited basis at this point, but staff is hoping to have all of the hills ready to go as soon as possible.
