SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Great Plains Zoo hosted a special birthday celebration on Tuesday.
Komati, the zoo's rare Eastern Black Rhino, turned one years old, and people across the area were invited to come and celebrate.
Komati has been a favorite at the zoo since the day he was born, and with how rare Eastern Black Rhinos are, the celebration was extra special.
"The rhinos are always a very popular attraction at the zoo," Great Plains Zoo senior director of communications Kylee Breems said. "There are only about 54 Eastern Black Rhinos in zoos in North America, so it's very special to have three living right here at the Great Plains Zoo."
The celebration included special zookeeper training, free cupcakes for zoo guests, and a birthday cake made especially for Komati.
