SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - The Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls is mourning the loss of a nine-year-old goat.

Ramone died following a long battle with seizures, the zoo announced Friday. The male San Clemente Goat actually surpassed the median age of seven, but had been suffering from unexplained seizures for several years.

“Ramone was well-known among zoo members and visitors, and was also dear to many of our staff and volunteers,” Elizabeth A. Whealy, President & CEO of the Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History, said in a press release. “We are grateful to the zoo’s veterinary staff and zookeepers who gave Ramone the best possible care through his entire life.”

He was born on a private farm in Oregon on January 29, 2008, and moved to the Great Plains Zoo when he was eight months old.
