Hill City's Alpine Inn specializes in European cuisine

HILL CITY, S.D. (KSFY) - The following story is part of KSFY's One Day Getaway:

One of the best parts of a trip to the Black Hills is the food, and there are plenty of options.

Just down the road from Crazy Horse in Hill City, you will find the Alpine Inn.

It is one of the best-known restaurants in the Hills.

It is located in the old Harney Peak Hotel building, which was built in 1886.

Wally Matush, a German immigrant, bought it in the '70s and turned it into the Alpine Inn in 1984.

Her heritage shows in the food they serve.

"Schnitzel with Yeager sauce, sauerkraut, red cabbage, German sausage, kessler, rouladens, we just make all kinds of really nice German dishes," she said.
