Iowa house fire that killed girl started in back porch but cause still unknown

GEORGE, Iowa (KSFY) - Investigators say a house fire that killed a 9-year-old Iowa girl earlier this week started in an enclosed porch at the back of the home.

The cause of the fire in the small town of George is still unknown at this time, but inspectors with the State Fire Marshal Division said it does not appear to be suspicious. The case remains under investigation.

Riley Meyer died in the fire, which happened in the early morning hours on February 4.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Riley's family to cover funeral expenses. The page has raised more than $15,000 in just three days, well exceeding its goal of $5,000.
