HURON, S.D. (KSFY) - The Huron School District received a big donation thanks to a beef jerky company with a large presence in the area.
Jack Links donated $20,000 to the district at a high school basketball game on Friday.
According to the company, the money will be used to support activities beyond the classroom, including student council initiatives and a Youth Frontiers retreat for seniors.
Company officials say Jack Links holds a charity golf tournament to raise money to support local schools. To date, Jack Link’s has raised over one million dollars for schools across the country.
Jack Links is a major employer in the Huron area, with a large plant in Alpena about 20 miles from Huron. Plant Manager Rick Tebay previously told KSFY News the plant employs more than 850 people, with most of them coming from Huron.
