SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Volunteers in Sioux Falls gathered Wednesday at the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House to serve hundreds of people by washing their feet and giving them a new pair of shoes.
The event was organized by Samaritan's Feet. It was the nonprofit's first event of the year and part of its 2018 National Day of Service campaign.
Organizers said many people are in need of a new pair of shoes, but they are also in need of kindness and compassion from others.
"It's equally, if not even more, important to have someone to engage with them, and have someone show kindness, love and inspiration, and washing their feet," Samaritan's Feet regional director of operations Denise Blomberg said. "It's a very powerful message to someone maybe down on their luck."
Volunteers from the St. Francis House and the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House took part in the event.
