Man arrested at home after attempted Taco John's robbery

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - A man is in custody after police say he tried and failed to rob a Taco John's in central Sioux Falls Monday night.

Police say the suspect walked into the fast-food restaurant on 1100 S. Minnesota Ave. around 9:30 p.m.

He allegedly handed over a note demanding cash and a threat if the clerk did not comply, but quickly took off when the employee told coworkers they were being robbed.

The employees followed, chasing the suspect out of the restaurant. Police say he got away in a car, but not before they got his license plate number.

Police say officers were waiting for 30-year-old Ronqwell Lee Fondren when he pulled into the parking lot of his southwest Sioux Falls home.

He was arrested and charged with 2nd degree robbery and one count of simple assault via intimidation.
