Milbank native canoeing for childhood cancer cure

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - A Milbank native is on a mission to paddle his way toward a cure for childhood cancer.

Jim Emanuel is canoeing down the Missouri River from western Montana to St. Louis.

He is using the 4-month-long trip to raise money for Alex's Lemonade Stand, a national childhood cancer foundation dedicated to funding research into new treatments and cures.

KSFY News caught up with Emanuel as he took a break Thursday to visit some friends and family in Sioux Falls.

He said he is loving the experience and might just continue his long journey past St. Louis.

"As I've been going down river, I've actually had thoughts about going all the way to the Gulf," he said. "So that's not out of the question yet. I haven't told my wife that yet, but when I get to St. Louis it's about a 50/50 chance I just gonna go right on by."
