Neil Diamond announces retirement, reveals Parkinson's diagnosis

In a posting on his web site late Monday night, famed singer Neil Diamond announced his immediate retirement from live concert touring after being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

Upcoming concerts scheduled for Australia and New Zealand have been cancelled.

In a statement on his web site, Diamond says "It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honored to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years...my sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows."

Diamond says he does plan to continue writing and recording music and well as developing what he calls "new projects".
