SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sanford Wellness Center at 49th Street and Oxbow Avenue in Sioux Falls has undergone some renovations. It started back in July of 2017 and is expected to be done in June. About 80% of the building has been renovated and there's just a little bit left to do in the $3 million reconstruction. The entire facility is 90,000 square feet. The director of the Sanford Wellness Center, Brandi Sivesind, said even though it's a large facility, she tried to create a boutique style fitness to give it a smaller feel for individuals. That means there are general workout areas that are larger but there are also smaller, group workout rooms to create that boutique feel.
The large performance center, which is the general workout area, was completely renovated with brand new weights, racks, cardio machines and televisions. Sivesind said because of the renovation, members don't have to sign up for the cardio machines any more. There is a smaller performance center for the individuals who want to have a more intimate feel for their workout.
There are a variety of workout classes offered at the center as well, some even brand new with the renovation. A heated yoga room was incorporated into the reconstruction process as well as a brand new cycling studio, which has a Soul Cycle feel to it. A class that's not only new to the wellness center but to the Midwest as well is the BOGA Fit or BOGA Yoga classes. The fit class is like a bootcamp class on a floating yoga board. These classes won't start being offered until the middle of March or beginning of April.
The Sanford Sports Science Institute also helped design a class specifically for the center called FORTE. FORTE is Italian for strong. This class is separate from the wellness center's membership. Each class is one hour long where members learn a new skill, take on a high intensity training, a warm up and cool down.
