No one hurt in overnight apartment fire in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KSFY) - A small fire forced some evacuations at a Sioux Falls apartment complex Sunday morning.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to the fire at 111 East 14th Street just after 1:00 a.m.

When crews arrived, they found a small fire in the first floor hallway. Firefighters had to remove sheetrock and part of the ceiling to contain the fire. Crews put out the fire in 10 minutes.

No one was hurt in the fire. Those living in the apartment were evacuated for a short time but able to return after the fire was put out.

The apartment building does not have a sprinkler system. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue says it's a good remind residents to have working smoke detectors and practice an emergency escape plan.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
