One person injured in Sioux Falls apartment fire

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - One person was hospitalized following an apartment fire in southwest Sioux Falls.

The fire broke out around 9:50 p.m. Monday at an apartment complex on South Theodore Avenue, according to Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Battalion chief Steve Brunette.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from an apartment on the third floor. When they conducted a search inside the apartment, they found one person inside who was transported to the hospital. The rest of the building was also evacuated.

The sprinkler system inside the apartment contained the fire to the room it started. The apartment suffered heavy water and moderate smoke damage. The 3rd floor of the apartment complex sustained light smoke damage with water damage to six apartments throughout the building.

No other injuries were reported at this incident. Fire inspector Mike Schmidt is investigating the cause of the fire.
