One person injured in house fire in southwest Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Battalion Chief Jim Powers said the fire broke out at about 6:20 PM Tuesday in a single family home. One resident sustained minor burns because of the fire, but no firefighters were injured.

When crews arrived, they found an active fire on the first floor of the home with moderate heat and smoke in the basement. The flames were controlled within 15 minutes.

The hot weather caused an issue because an extra fire truck was requested to help prevent heat-related injuries for the firefighters.

The residents were displaced from the fire and the American Red Cross is assisting them.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
