Enjoy a premier evening celebrating all things art. The 55th annual Arts Night is an annual benefit art auction to raise funds to maintain the success of the Visual Arts Center's programs and exhibitions.
The 2016 Arts Night exhibition, In the Making: Sustaining the Arts for 55 Years, pays homage to the participating artists and community that have continually supported the Visual Arts Center over the years. This exhibition features diverse media and artists from near and far.
"We're trying to capture the idea that, as an organization, we're in the making. Even though this art has been around for 55 years, it's nice to provide people we are constantly in the making," Kara Dirkson said.
The artwork included in the 2016 exhibition is donated by the artist and will be sold at the live auction on Arts Night.
"This exhibition is a chance to show off the artwork they submitted to us. We ask them to donate work. It's asking a lot to have someone give away a work of art," Dirkson said.
The artist gets 25% of what the piece sells for during the auction. From photography to mixed media, traditional landscape and 3-D, there's a lot to choose from and something for everyone.
They're on display in the Visual Arts Center now through the event, May 7th.
"It's an art-filled evening celebrating the 55 year tradition of having a professional art organization in Sioux Falls," Kara Dirkson said.
