SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Portions of the bike trail near Spencer and Tomar Parks will reopen Thursday evening.
This marks the completion of Phase 1 of the reconstruction project, located along the Big Sioux River between the South Cliff Avenue bridge and the South Minnesota Avenue bridge.
The City said the new trail is 12 feet wide and offers a smooth surface, clear site lines, views to the river, and improved drainage.
“This segment of our city’s nearly 30 miles of bike trail is one of our most popular, and we want trail users to be able to enjoy the summer on a fully open trail system,” Park Development Specialist Mike Patten said.
Phase 2 will begin after Labor Day weekend and include a complete reconstruction of the bike trail from Tomar Park to Cliff Avenue.
The City said the wider trail and improved alignment planned in Phase 2 will greatly improve the user experience on one of our most frequented sections of trail.
The entire project is expected to be completed by late fall 2017.
