Police: Man arrested for attempting to rape woman in Sioux Falls garage

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - A Sioux Falls man is behind bars after police say he tried to rape a woman early Sunday morning.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said a 21-year-old woman and her friend went to a garage on the 700 block of W. 11th Street behind Munchies to hang out with another person around 12:45 a.m.

Her friend left shortly after and locked the garage door behind him.

Clemens said the suspect then told the woman to take off her clothes, and when she refused, he allegedly made a comment that he was going to kill her.

The suspect began pulling at the woman's clothes, but could not get them off, Clemens said. She yelled for help, and three people in the area heard her and were able to get the garage door open far enough for her to crawl out.

When officers arrived at the garage, the suspect was gone, but the woman's friend was able to identify him.

Officers found 50-year-old Sergio Rudy Marroquin at his home on the 300 block of S. Summit Avenue and arrested him for attempted rape.
