Police: Teen arrested after stealing running car from garage

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Police say a teenager is facing several charges, including marijuana possession, after stealing a running car from a garage in western Sioux Falls on Tuesday.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said a person living on Topaz Place left their car running in their garage to warm it up. They then heard a noise and saw the car driving away.

An officer located the car near Madison Street and Kiwanis Avenue sometime between 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

The officer arrested the 13-year-old male driver for burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, grand theft and possession of marijuana.

Police received two other reports on Tuesday of running vehicles being stolen while the driver was inside their home or a business.

Clemens suggested to either get an automatic start, or to sit inside the vehicle while it warms up to avoid thefts.
