Rapid City Police investigating two separate crashes involving pedestrians

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Police in Rapid City are investigating two separate crashes involving pedestrians. Both crashes occurred on Friday.

The Rapid City Police Department says a 64-year old Rapid City man was killed Friday when he was hit by a car while crossing the street in the 800 block of East St. Patrick Street.

Police say the man was crossing outside a crosswalk or marked pedestrian crossing just after 5pm when he was hit by a BMW driven by a 62-year old Rapid City woman. The man died at the hospital from his injuries. The driver of the BMW was not hurt.

In another accident at about 5:17pm Friday, police say a 29-year old Rapid City man was hit by a vehicle when he was trying to cross N. LaCrosse Street just north of E. Watertown St., also outside of a crosswalk or marked pedestrian crossing. Police say he was hit by a Nissan Murano driven by a 34-year old Rapid City woman. The man was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan was unhurt.

Both accidents remain under investigation.
