SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - East Rice Street will remain closed through next week between Cleveland Avenue and Timberline Avenue.
On Friday Nov. 18, the Ellis & Eastern Company was switching cars into the Rail to Road Transloading facility on Rice Street and as they passed through the Rice Street crossing, three cars derailed.
The derailment caused damage to the Rice Street road that has made it impassable to the general traveling public.
The City says work on the road next week will include welding new rail joints in the crossing, placement of concrete crossing panels, and paving with asphalt.
The City's goal is to open the road by the end of the day on Wednesday, Nov. 30, but the work is weather-dependent. Any inclement weather will delay the schedule.
