Snowfall a 'Christmas miracle' for Great Bear staff

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - While the snow has been a hassle for Sioux Falls-area drivers on Thursday, it was a welcome sight at Great Bear Recreation Park.

"You know what? For us this is a Christmas miracle," Great Bear General Manager Dan Grider said.

Staff at Great Bear have been waiting for the snow to return for weeks, and while December has been slow up to this point they are looking forward to a great season.

"We had a little snow making opportunities about two or three weeks ago, and then we just had to wait," Grider said. "And finally mother nature delivered some fresh snow, some cold temps, so we're ready to go."

The park is set to open 40 percent of the main hill and about half of the tubing hill by Tuesday, but staff are hoping to have everything 100 percent ready to go as soon as possible.
