BALTIC, S.D. - In this week's edition of Monday Munchies, we travel to Someday Cafe, which opened in the middle of June in 2018 after the owners spent 10 years remodeling it. Kim and Mike Frerichs bought the building the restaurant is currently in back in 2008. It used to be a living space for the previous owner so the couple had to remodel quite a bit. It's located right on the Main Street in Baltic on St. Olaf Avenue.
It's now the only sit-down restaurant in the town of Baltic. Mike said the response from the city has been awesome. He was a chef with Avera for more than 30 years before leaving that job and opening the restaurant. The reason why it took so long to open is because the couple worked on the restaurant little by little to get it open. Every time someone would pass by the building and ask when it was going to be open, Mike would say "someday." That's how the current name came about.
The menu includes a variety of items including sandwiches, burgers, and pastas. He has created a burger called the Bulldog Burger to pay tribute to the school's football team. Some of the more popular items on the menu are the kids' Mac & Cheese bowl, the Truck Stop sandwich, the Fettucine Alfredo, and the hot beef sandwich. The Truck Stop sandwich is a country fried steak in between two slices of Texas Toast with american cheese on top.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM. There are daily lunch specials for $7.99 Tuesday through Friday.
