PIERRE, S.D. (SDBA) - A legendary Olympian and genuine South Dakota hero was honored by the South Dakota Legislature Tuesday at the capitol in Pierre.

The South Dakota Broadcasters Association reports gold medalist Billy Mills made stops in the Senate and House chambers to receive House Concurrent Resolution 1010.

It commends and honors the accomplishments and patriotism of Billy Mills for his contributions to not only the state, but the entirety of the United States of America, as Billy Mills himself has said, "Every passion has its destiny."

Mills talked about how the divisions in America today can be overcome by people and governments at every level sitting down to find solutions. Mills cites manifest destiny as the reason democracy will win in the end and America will be stronger.

Mills won a gold medal for the 10,000 meter run at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
