South Dakota professional choir hopes to bring home Grammy Award Sunday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The South Dakota Chorale was nominated for a Grammy Award in November for its latest recording of Tyberg Masses. The nomination is in the category of Best Choral Performance.

Other nominations associated with the recording of Tyberg Masses is Best Surround Sound Album, Best Engineered Album for the classical genre, and Producer of the Year in the classical genre. The Grammy Awards Show will be hosted by James Corden on Sunday in New York City at Madison Square Garden. The show will be live at 6:30 PM.

Tyberg Masses is the third commercial recording made by the South Dakota Chorale. The choir formed in 2009 and is under the direction of Dr. Brian Schmidt. Schmidt is an associate professor at Baylor University but did his undergrad at South Dakota State University. The group consists of singers from all over the country, including South Dakota. Tyberg Masses has been performed in concert in Sioux Falls; Minneapolis; Lincoln, NE; and Durham, NC.

The South Dakota Chorale will be performing at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls on Thursday at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $20 if you're an adult and $5 for students. There will also be another performance at the Eppley Auditorium on Morningside College's campus in Sioux City, IA. That performance will also be at 7:30 PM and is free.
