Sioux Falls, SD (KSFY) South Dakota’s largest figure skating competition was held in Sioux Falls this weekend.
Roughly 160 skaters from seven different clubs in the region competed Sioux Falls Ice Classic at the Scheels Iceplex.
“With the Olympics happening this year, a lot more kids get interested in it and they look for something like this,” organizer Kristi Feucht from the Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club said.
Feucht says the sport is growing in popularity every year as more kids around Sioux Falls join the club.
“It feels like freedom! Every time I take a step on it, it feels like freedom and you can just do anything you want,” 10-year-old figure skater Josalyn Hiebert said.
“You get to do all of these jumps and spins that a lot of people only wish they could do,” 18-year-old figure skater Samantha Feucht said.
