SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Canaries will open against the Chicago Dogs on Friday at home at 7:05 PM. There are quite a few unique things planned for fans this season to keep them entertained outside of the baseball game.
New this year, Spectra Food Services & Hospitality has added a specialty food menu for each home stand. It's called the "Eat Your Opponent Menu." For example, for the home opener against the Chicago Dogs, the staff will serve a classic Chicago Style Hot Dog. For the home stand against the Wichita Wingnuts, the featured food will be a Wingnut Burger, which is a 1/3 lb. beef patty smeared with creamy peanut butter topped with smoky bacon between a fresh Casey's Bakery kaiser bun. Another example is the Halo Burger when the Canaries take on the St. Paul Saints. It is a 1/3 lb. beef patty topped with melted cheese, placed between the glazed goodness of a classic glazed donut.
Throughout the season, the Birds offer suites at the ballpark. The standard suites come with 20 tickets to the game. It includes a temperature controlled room, cable TV, seating inside the room and private seating outside the suite as well. The special seating also includes a wait staff during the game. Staff at the Birdcage said the suites can be great for businesses to entertain clients and also to reward employees. They can also be used for bachelor or bachelorette parties or birthday parties.
For the home opening weekend against the Chicago Dogs, there are quite a few events planned to keep the fans entertained. The first 1,000 fans on Friday and Saturday will receive a Canaries magnet schedule. On Friday, there will be free face painting for kids. There will also be free music from the Cartwright Brothers before the game. There will be bounce houses for the kids during the game as well. A fireworks show will follow right after the game. The game starts at 7:05 PM on Friday.
On Saturday, the Chicago Style Hot Dogs will be available at Canaries Country. There will also be bounce houses for the kids that day. The game starts at 6:05 PM that night.
It is Sunday Family Fun Day at the Birdcage on Sunday when the game starts at 1:05 PM. Kids can run the bases after the game and can get autographs from the players right after the game as well.
The Canaries are coming off their best season since 2012 with a record of 45-55 in the 2017 season. Many players are returning this season including two of the top hitters in the league, Jabari Henry and Burt Reynolds. Henry tied the Canaries single season record for the number of home runs with a total of 29 in 2017. Sioux Falls native Patrick Fiala will also return for the 2018 season. The Birds have added a few new players to the bullpen this year.
