(KSFY) - Veteran journalist and South Dakota native Tom Brokaw's private collection of memorabilia is now on display at the University of Iowa.
Brokaw recently celebrated his 50th anniversary at NBC News and marked the golden year by gifting mementos, photos and stories he has collected over the years to the university where he attended as a freshman.
The collection includes his correspondence with several former U.S. presidents.
"He had relationships with all of the presidents over the years since he started at the White House when Nixon was president, and he maintained these relationships," Greg Prickman, head of special collections at the University of Iowa, said.
The broadcaster says he flunked out of Iowa his freshman year after majoring in "beer and co-eds." He went on to graduate from the University of South Dakota.
