Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Ethan Geraets, a senior at Chester Area High School with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
His list of extracurricular accomplisments is extensive....from playing Basketball to being a member of the National Honor Society.
But his classroom work has put him heads above other seniors who are getting ready to graduate.
Ethan Geraets tells us he has had a 4.0 grade point average all through his four years of high school because he sees school as a challenge.
And that has been especially true for this final year of high school. "I like to take more challenging classes to ..I always want to better myself so i'm not gonna...especially senior year take classes...slack off as some other do."
This year he has been busy working his way through Calculus and Physics....Psychology and Sociology.....and he's aleady polished off dual credit courses in both Math and Speech.
Ethan's Math teacher, Shane Fods, says Ethan has never been a student to just slide through school. "I believe he took Algebra here as an 8th grader so he was kind of ahead of the curve. He knew he wanted to get to those upper level Math courses where they were actually doing Calculus and Pre-Calculus."
Chester is a smaller school but Ethan says that settting has been a big reason he's been so successful. "The small school it kind of creates....you don't feel it right away but going from elementary to high school all in that one building it creates this almost family feel of just that one building."
Ethan is following in his sister's footsteps and going to SDSU in the Fall.....because of their wide ranging ag programs.
Ethan has grown up on a farm and his plan is to one day make it his own. "That is the pot on the back burner is going back to the family farm...taking over the family business."
For being named a Scholar of the Week, Ethan receives a $100 scholarship from Sioux Valley Energy which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
