CLEAR LAKE, S.D. (KSFY) – Authorities say two women were killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash east of Clear Lake.
The names of the people involved are not being released pending notification of families.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a 1998 Lincoln Town Car was westbound on South Dakota Highway 22 just before 8:15 a.m. when the vehicle slid into the eastbound lane where it was hit by an on-coming 2016 Peterbuilt Prostar.
Both women in the car, an 83-year-old driver and an 86-year-old passenger, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. It is unknown at this time whether they were wearing seatbelts.
The 56-year-old male driver of the semi was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt, the DPS said.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Deuel County Sheriff’s Office.
