SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - An American hero was recognized Monday for his hard work.
Steve Friman has volunteered more than 10,000 hours at the Sioux Falls VA since 2002.
And like many of the people he has helped, Steve has had to fight some serious battles.
A brain infection has left him with limited speech and mobility, and he was also recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, but his service continues.
"If he could have talked today, he would have told everyone that they give him way more than he has ever given the VA," Steve's sister Wendy Madsen said. "Everyone here spoils him, it's just his reason for getting up each day."
Steve himself is veteran of the Air Force.
