ELM SPRINGS, S.D. (KSFY) - A West River rancher was just trying to get home after a day of cattle chores when a herd of antelope had other plans.

Shawn Barber told KSFY News he came upon the animals after leaving his parents house around 3 p.m. MT Tuesday.
They were standing in the middle of the road near Elm Springs. Then they took off running -- but not in the right direction.
"They weren’t going to go off into any of the ditches or getting off the road, so I just kept following them, and the darn things just kept running down the middle of the road," Barber said.
After following the herd for awhile, they finally went under a fence and into a pasture.
Barber said this has happened to him before, but never with this many antelope or for that long of a distance.
