Wintry weather leads to crashes around Sioux Falls area

Crews respond to 2-vehicle crash on I-229 Tuesday

(KSFY) - Authorities are responding to a number of accidents around the Sioux Falls area as the region continues to deal with a winter storm.

KSFY News has received reports of several crashes around the city Tuesday morning.

The most significant was a two-vehicle accident on I-229 between Western Avenue and Minnesota Avenue around 8:00 a.m. It involved a pickup and and SUV, both of which were heavily damaged. Police have not confirmed any details about potential injuries in the crash.

The blizzard has left roads across eastern South Dakota slick and snow covered. The Highway Patrol is encouraging drivers to take extra time on the roads, and if possible, just stay home.
