Thieves In Sioux Falls Have Stolen Copper Wiring From Two Construction Companies Over The Last Three Weeks. The Total Loss Is $24,000.

In tonight's "Burglaries & Break-Ins" report, Sioux Falls Police say copper thieves are at it again:

And a warning tonight about your garage and your home's safety.

Within the last two weeks, two Sioux Falls construction businesses have been hit by thieves: the common item in both cases is copper wiring and copper piping.

Why copper? Police say it's worth anywhere from 3 to 4 dollars a pound: commonly, it's stolen then sold by people who need to support a drug habit.

Sioux Falls Police also caution you to keep your garage closed:

Three robberies from open garages have been reported over the last three days, including the 400 block of South Walts and the 1300 block of West 15th. Officer Loren McManus tells KSFY; "They had open garages and in both cases with tolls taken out of them. The other open garage was down on Saint Charles Lane it was an open garage and an unlocked vehicle inside the garage was entered with some electronic devices taken out of it."

In Worthington, police there say a 17 year old Sioux Falls boy stabbed a 22 year old man in the back with a small knife on sunday morning.

The incident happened in the 1500 block of Darling Drive.

The 17 year old was arrested and charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon.

What makes you think that its kids stealing the copper?! Why not old people or middle aged people? And the only cut thats been made is on the highway patrol. And yes i agree our president is awful but he had nothing to do with this.

Wow it seems so easy to blame everything on a president. Too bad law enforcement is controled and funded by the state and its budget. So many people take shots into politics becuase they "voted" yet if you look at the community meetings and how many people actually attend them. Then you understand. So many people all over the U.S. try blaming local problems at the federal level. Too many people complain about budget cutbacks or new ordinances. Get involved, blame can only be pushed so far.
