Sioux Falls Police say warmer weather brings with it additional thefts from construction sites.

By Brian Allen

Sioux Falls Police are cautioning homebuilders tonight to keep a close eye on their materials and tools after an overnight theft..

This story starts in the 3-thousand block of South Louise Avenue.

Just after midnight, police received a report of a man walking down louise carrying a fire hydrant in his hands. Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens picks it up from there. "After talking with officers they learned the fire hydrant was a brand new one that had been taken from new construction at 77th and South Louise."

21 year old Matthew Larson of Sioux Falls is facing grand theft and possession of stolen property charges.

As the weather warms up, thieves will be out late at night looking for whatever they can get their hands on. Cnstruction sites are attractive targets; often time workers leave tools and materials at the work site, thieves swoop in and pick it up.
