The highly anticipated Halloween holiday is coming up this Saturday. Of course no question that treats make Halloween but you might want to be aware of the tricks.

Reese's peanut butter cups, 3 Musketeers, Peanut Butter Cups. No question pillow cases will be full with tons and tons of candy Saturday night. Hy-Vee Dietitian Kristin Sousek has three great Halloween tips.

First, before trick or treating, make sure your little goblin gets a nutritious meal. They're more likely to less candy while trick or treating.

Make sure your child doesn't eat any candy until inspected. Look for something re-wrapped or tampered with and when in doubt throw it out.

And don't forget dental care. After eating the sweets don't forget to brush and floss those teeth.

Of course there's the age old battle between parents and kids about how much candy is to much.

"A good rule of thumb would be allow your kids one or two pieces of candy a day balanced in between nutritious and healthy meals," said Sousek.

So when the kids get home after trick or treating and dump that candy all over the floor make sure you're safe, but of course make sure you have a lot of fun.
