Don't be as stuffed as your turkey!

By KSFY Staff

The majority of you will be attending at least two Thanksgiving meals this holiday season and stuffing yourself twice in a couple days will certainly reflect on the scale.

"Portion control is very important, enjoy your favorite foods but remember moderation is key," said Hy-Vee Dietitian Kristen Sousek.

Sousek says one key this holiday season is to follow a good eating pattern.

"One of the things you don't want to do for the holidays is skip meals or starve yourself before your big holiday meal. Mostly what that's going to do is make us miserable and basically is not healthy."

"You've got good proteins, carbohydrates, definitely including more vegetables and fruit into your Thanksgiving meal would be something that you would want to achieve," said Sousek.

And staying up past the last football game could be considered a big achievement too, considering turkey does contain the essential amino acid Tripdaphan.

"We have all of these carbohydrates in place we tend to get sluggish and sleepy after we've eaten."
