With gas prices continuing to rise, airlines have been forced to become more creative to generate revenue.  Our Financial Expert, Aaron Maguire provide us with some good advice on what you can do before and after you buy your next airline ticket.

How are airlines getting more creative with their pricing?

• They are charging booking fees if you talk to an airline agent on the phone to buy your ticket…Book your tickets online to save money!
• They are charging for extra checked luggage…many airlines will now charge you for your second and third checked bag…per person.
• They are charging for food
• They are charging for extra leg room
• They are overbooking their flights

How can we save a little money when we buy our next plane ticket?

• Do your best to plan ahead and buy your airline tickets way in advance of your trip
• Use the internet to buy your plane ticket and make sure they are not charging you a booking fee
• Pack Light! Remember most airlines will charge you more money if your luggage weighs more than 50 lbs, so weigh your luggage at your home before you leave to make sure you are under the 50 lb weight limit.
• Fly at off peak times
 
How can we make life a little easier for ourselves when we fly?

• Get to the airport with plenty of time to spare…remember, if you are checking your bags,  that might take longer than you expect…then you have to go through the security line!
• Most airlines will allow you to check in 24 hours before your plane departs…this is a great opportunity to get your seating assignment, upgrade your seat and check the status of your flight.
• Consider paying a little more money to get more leg room…especially if you are going to be on a long flight.  This upgrade can usually be purchased when you buy your airline ticket or when you check in.
