Tips On Selling and Buying A Car

By KSFY Staff

Financial Expert Aaron Maguire has some helpful tips on getting a new car, if you're thinking about selling your gas guzzler.

Here's where Aaron says you should start:

1. Spend 5 minutes and educate yourself and run the numbers!

2. If you are going to buy a car just because of the gas mileage, make sure the numbers add up.

3. For Example: If you drive 15,000 miles per year and get 14 miles per gallon your annual gas cost is about $3,748. If you got 20 miles per gallon your annual gas cost is about $2,626. A savings of $1,123 per year or $93 per month. If you got 30 miles per gallon your annual gas cost is about $1750. That's a savings of $1,998 per year or $166 per month.

4. You then have to see how much more the new car is going to cost you per month.

Aaron suggests checking out  www.edmunds.com

Click on "New Cars" tab, Click on "Price With Options" tab you can look any car you are interested in, get all of the options available.

Is there a marketing allowance available from the manufacturer to the dealer?
Are there any finance incentives going on right now from the manufacturer?
What your trade-in is approximately worth?

Check out the "Used Car" section, or try the "Appraise Car" function, find out what that car really costs, invoice price not sticker price. What type of rebates are available, check out the Incentives/rebates tab?

Here's what you should keep in mind at the dealership. If you are ready to buy that day, ask for the General Manager/Sales Manager up front, tell them what you want, be specific about car, price and options, they will get it done quickly.

Know how much you can afford before you get to the dealership. Don’t buy a car based on payments. Finally bring a friend with you for a support, if you have any questions in your mind you can discuss your options with a friend.
