Ingredients

16 servings
From the five-part series "A Taste of Edmonton: The Festival City"

5 cups all-purpose flour
1 heaping tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins
2 cups water
2 cups vegetable oil

Directions

In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt; mix well. Add raisins and water, mix until combined, then knead dough on a board. Let dough stand for 15 minutes then knead again. Let dough stand for 30 minutes more.

Flatten dough with hands to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut into 16 even wedges.

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot, but not smoking, and fry each wedge 2 minutes per side, or until golden. Serve warm.
