The Beresford School District is trying to be proactive, in fighting the dangers of teenage drug and alcohol abuse.

By Leslie Rupiper

A recent survey found fewer South Dakota High School students are engaging in risky behavior. That includes things like binge drinking and drug use. The Beresford School District is working to stay proactive in the fight against such dangers. The District believes keeping kids away from the dangers of drugs and alcohol is a community responsibility. That's why school leaders sent out a letter urging community members to take part in a forum on underage drinking an substance abuse.

We're all too familiar with what can happen when kids do use drugs and alcohol. The results can be deadly. To avoid such outcomes, the Beresford School District is hosting an informational presentation. It will include a panel discussion on what students, school leaders, and parents can do to confront the problem of underage drinking and drug use. School leaders believe communication is key. So by starting the conversation, they hope they'll get the entire community talking.

The Community Forum will be held Thursday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school chorus room. Everyone from school administrators, to law enforcement even substance abuse counselors will be on hand. The Beresford School District also sent out a letter warning of the signs of teenage alcohol and drug abuse.
