The Yankton School District is honoring those involved in fine arts. Three families were inducted into the Fine Arts Hall of Fame for the contributions they've made to the school, and the community. Everything from drama to dance fall under the fine arts umbrella in the Yankton School District. Activities Director Bob Winter helped create the district's fine arts hall of fame. He says, "As we have the athletics Hall of Fame, I had a lot of comments of why don't you start a Fine Arts Hall of Fame, so I did. And it's been one of the best things we've ever done."
The Hall of Fame honors not only students, but instructors and contributors to fine arts. This year, three families are being recognized for their support. They are Doctor Duane Reaney, the French family and Marjorie and Norm Gross. But students who've excelled at fine arts this past school year are also honored, after the hall of fame inductions. Winter says, "At that time, we give out to our students the music awards, the debate awards, etc. We'll probably have 400 to 500 kids and parents. So it's a really neat night."
Yankton has had a Fine Arts Hall of Fame for 8 years, and more than 30 people have been inducted.
