Some local girl scouts are using the summertime to learn more about math and science. We take you to a camp where you won't find tents and campfires, but rather microscopes and calculators. It's called, "The Mysteries of Science and Math."  It's a 4 day camp put on by Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons. The day our camera was there, middle school girls were learning about microscopes on the Augustana campus. Kristi Ofstad with Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons says, "They're actually looking at some water samples right now from the Big Sioux River."

Organizers say traditionally, girls aren't as interested in math and science as they are in other subjects. Kristi says, "So we're hoping to spark some interest in at least 1 of the girls that's attending this week to venture into a field that they might not have otherwise thought of." More than two dozen girls from around the area are enjoying the fun aspects of math and science, thanks to some local teachers who are back in the classroom this summer. Kristi says, "We're introducing the girls to a variety of fields of science and math, doing some earth sciences some biology, some forensics." It's a summer camp with a twist, that could give the girls a whole new view of math and science.
