The South Dakota Department of Education is making it easier for kids who think they might be interested in a health career, but aren't quite sure. Organizers have set up Scrubs Camp to help students decide whether a job in health care is the right fit for them.

Medical careers in South Dakota are thriving, thanks in part to Avera and Sanford Health Systems based out of Sioux Falls. But many South Dakota communities have health care positions available. To help high school students explore the possibilities, the South Dakota Department of Education is offering Scrubs Camp. It's a day long event where students hear from all kinds of healthcare professionals: everyone from a phlebotomist, to an athletic trainer, or a registered nurse.

The speakers talk about what they do and how they got into their professions. Students also have a chance to experience hands-on activities throughout the day. The camps generally run from 8:30 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon, and include lunch. If you live far away from where a Scrubs Camp is being offered, you can even apply for travel scholarships. Organizers believe it's a great way to inspire students to explore a health career, especially if they're already interested in the field.
