Destination Imagination

By Leslie Rupiper

A unique tournament kicks off this weekend at Tri-Valley School.  It's the Destination Imagination Southeast Regional Tournament.  We take a look at how the contest works, and what students hope to learn from it.

We caught up with several kids who take part in Destination Imagination through Brandon Valley Schools.  They were watching a video of the national competition in Tennessee.  Destination Imagination encourages students to take what they know and apply it to solve challenges.  In the process, they learn to work together as a team, while pushing the limits of their imagination.

Organizers say through such excersises, they hope kids come up with solutions to things that aren't necessarily in their textbooks.  Right now, Destination Imagination is a school-sponsored club in Brandon Valley, but organizer.s would like to see it embedded in the curriculum.

Again, the beginning of this year's tournaments kicks off at Tri-Valley School this Saturday, March 7th.  The top two teams in each challenge will advance to the state tournament in Pierre, in April
