Iroquois To Go To 4-Day School Week

By Leslie Rupiper

Another South Dakota school district is going to a 4-day week starting this fall. We take a look at what's in store for the Iroquois School District, which is just east of Huron.

The Iroquois School District will join about 20 other South Dakota school systems that have now decided to go to a 4-day school week. The school board voted unanimously to make the move. It's aimed at saving money for the school district, and leaving fridays open so students can get extra help from teachers. The 4-day week might also give teachers more time for professional development.

The idea appears to be catching on in the Iroquois area. Nearby Wolsey-Wessington has also adopted a four-day week. Iroquois school leaders say they've been discussing it for several years now.
