When South Dakota kids head back to school in the fall, 20 school districts in the state will have updated equipment to make sure those children get quality food when they're at school. The money has been doled out to school cafeterias around the state through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It amounts to a total of $255,465.
Among the recipients: the Sioux Falls School District which received more than $22,000. The money is to be used to upgrade or buy new food service equipment. Sandra Kangas, Supervisor of the South Dakota Department of Education's Child and Adult Nutrition Services says, "This is a win-win situation. Grant recipients will be able to use these funds to improve the quality of the meals they serve, and the new equipment will result in better energy efficiency. The money can be used to buy everything from ovens to milk coolers.
